Marriage and Couples Counseling

Relationships are messy and complicated. You and your partner argue all the time- about money, the kids, or just dumb stuff- and you can't seem to get on the same page. You've tried everything you know of to fix it, but it's not making a difference. It's like you're speaking different languages. Maybe you’ve thought about going to counseling but you're not sure if it's "that bad."

What if you could step out of the arguments you're stuck in and finally feel like you're being heard and seen? If you had the choice between being trapped in the same cycle with no end in sight or getting help to figure out the real problem and find peace in your home, which would you choose?

My goal is to help you…

  • Identify the cycle your relationship is stuck in

  • Help each partner feel seen and heard

  • Heal old wounds

  • Create new patterns of attachment and bonding that will last for years to come

How can couples counseling help? Couples and relationship counseling is a complex journey. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy which is a research-based approach to helping couples address negative interaction patterns that have developed over the lifespan and improve their attachment bonds with one another. Neither partner is the problem… the cycle is the problem and we work to identify that together. I am licensed to provide clinical counseling services throughout the state of North Carolina and couples sessions can be held virtually throughout the state or in person at my office in Hickory, NC.

What should you expect? The first session will consist of a 90-minute consultation and intake to determine if we are a good fit to work together. Subsequent sessions will consist of a 60-minute individual session for each partner to address any non-disclosed information and individual trauma or attachment history. Following these first 3 sessions, there will be a joint follow up session to discuss goals and expectations for treatment.

How much will it cost? Like all other medical/mental health services, fees for sessions vary widely. Unfortunately, insurance companies generally do not provide coverage for “marriage” counseling. Because of this, I do not accept insurance benefits for couples counseling services. The private pay rate is $150 per hour.

What if we aren’t a good fit? You and your partner have full freedom to discontinue services at any time. I do not have expertise with issues of infidelity so this would not be an issue I could provide services for. Additionally, couples who are experiencing interpersonal violence may not be a good fit for couples counseling and would likely benefit more from individual counseling.
